  • Sometimes it’s not present by default. If you go to Settings > Permalinks and choose a “pretty” permalink structure, WP should create an .htaccess file for you.

HOWEVER, some FTP programs hide the .htaccess file unless you apply a filter. For WS-FTP, this file filter is -la .. What FTP program are you using to view your server contents? Or are you using your web host’s file manager? (They sometimes hide those files as well, but you’ll have to look in your specific file manager program to see how to display those hidden files.)

Im using my web host’s file manager.
I created the missing .htaccess file & made it writable.
I managed to get my permalinks to update itself now.
    Know i have another problem.
when i go to add a comment on a post all i get is a blank page !

What theme are you using? If you use the WordPress Default 1.6 theme do you have that problem? If so then reupload the wp-contents/themes/default folder.

Also, what plugins do you have activated?

    Solved the problem
It turned out to be the theme i was useing.

uploaded a new one & me permalinks are working perfect.
