# Permalink URL errors

 * When setting up my WordPress web site/blog { [http://www.pacificcascaderailway.com](http://pacificcascaderailway.com)}
   I have been reading Hussey’s “Absolute Beginner’s Guide”. When I initially published
   the page on Dreamhost I used the default Permalink. By the time I got to page
   108, Hussey suggested using the “Post Name” permalink so I changed it. My 404
   monitor now regularly gives me several URL errors every day from the search engines
   not finding the URL. While Hussey suggests using Joost de Valk’s permalink tool
   to redirect the search engines, I feel that is way above my pay grade and experience.
   I’m kind of stuck with these 404 errors unless someone can suggest something 
   or come to my rescue with code to enter into my .htaccess file. I do have Dreamweaver
   and can access and FTP upload changes to that file now that I found it. Thanks;

 * – WordPress will either create/rebuild the .htaccess file. If WordPress cannot
   automatically edit the [.htaccess file](http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks#Where.27s_my_.htaccess_file.3F)(
   if it is not writable), then WordPress will provide manual instructions after
   saving the correct block of code so that you can manually add it to your .htaccess
   file.

 * Thank you Tara.
    I went to the Dashboard>>>Settings>>>Permalinks and re-saved
   the same Permalink “Post Name” structure. Since I did not get any further instructions,
   I guess there is hope. I don’t understand why WordPress would update the .htaccess
   file now, when it did not do so the first time I saved the Permalink change. 
   But, there is a lot I don’t understand, even when I read about it.

 * I guess I won’t know if the problem is resolved until I see that I stop getting
   URL search errors in my SEO plug-in. If your solution works, I greatly appreciate
   the help.

 * I guess re-saving the Permalink structure did not work to update the links as

 * As far as I can tell, or remember, these blog entries referenced were in 2011,
   before I started using WordPress in October 2015, and I had built my own web 
   site using Dreamweaver. I don’t even have access to the links myself, and that
   site is gone as are these links, but all had the same URL address. Here is an
   example:

 * All are always Mozilla spider URL errors. Is there a way to tell Mozilla these
   links no longer exist? Thanks.

 * The second error is especially interesting since I am running the **“Twenty Twelve”**
   theme and have no idea where the **Piccione-theme** came from. Has my WordPress
   site been invaded by a virus of some sort.
 * Here is a new plug in error that I don’t even have as a plug in:

   Does the Twenty Twelve theme have some security holes that let some of these 
   in? I have just six plug-ins: Akismet; Jetpack; SEO ultimate; simple share buttons
   adder; WP Super cache; WP-DBManager. I seem to gaining several things I did not
   add.
