# Permalink Special Chars

 * Hello,
    How do I adjust the use of special chars in permalinks? I have the idea
   this can be accomplished via the language file (since I’m running WP in Danish),
   but really do not know for sure. I need to adjust the following chars: “æ” into“
   ae”, “ø” into “oe” and “Ã¥” into “aa”.

 * There are various plugins that do this for ISO-8859-1 and UTF-8. 1.3 has some
   character decomposition built in. It’s incomplete, at the moment, but will be
   finished before 1.3 is released. Look at the remove_accents function in [functions-formatting.php](http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/cafelog/wordpress/wp-includes/functions-formatting.php?rev=1.45&only_with_tag=MAIN&view=auto).

    Thanks for your input. 🙂 I would like to know if you’re refering
   to the **$curl = preg_replace** strings? It looks like they could do the trick,
   but does it work with permalinks as well?
