Support » Fixing WordPress » permalink – pages not come up!

  • Hi,

I read the topic on permalink troubles and I did follow all the suggestions but my site is still not working.

    my site is WP 2.6
my server is Lynux and everything is set for allowrewrite on their end.
    my .htaccess is correct
I changed to ‘custom structure’ using /%postname%/

pages did not come up, error 404

then I put text in ‘category’ and ‘tag’

    same error 404
(The requested URL /about/ was not found on this server. Apache/2.0.52 (Red Hat) Server at Port 80)

after going through on everything with my webhost he suggested the following: “my guess is the permalink requires a directive in the
.htaccess file or apache configuration to allow the url to resolve”

My question is: do I have to change something in my apache file or in my .htaccess file?

    # BEGIN WordPress
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]

    # END WordPress

Please note, that I’m not a webmaster, if it’s possible explain it to me as simple as possible.

I did change the permalink setting back to default and that is why the site looks fine now.
