  • I have tried it all.

Followed this site to a t:

Have created a test site with permalinks enabled. I have .htaccess writable. Have enabled all Apache commands needed and have disabled all plugins and such. Still no luck.

When I look at posts new or old I get a 404 error. I created a test page with the echo code to see if permalinks are enabled, the page loads blank:

    <?php if ( get_option(‘permalink_structure’) != ” ) { echo ‘permalinks enabled’; } ?>

    Here is the page:

    Main site is at:

Index.php loads but no posts work. The WP files are in the same directory (/testsite). The .htaccess is writable. I tested this by erasing the contents and reseting permalinks.

Any more suggestions? I have checked AllowOverride and Modrewrite.

  • When I visit your site, I see the posts on the front page. Should I be looking somewhere else? Did you get your permalinks issues resolved?

I thought I might start with listing my links to another blog and to articles and material. But I was stumped at trying to figure out where they would end up, whether tabs…which tabs I don’t personally know what they are, how to make them etc. Is there a place in 3.2 blog 20ll that links should end up on. I know there are plug ins and widgets, but haven’t figured how to sort those out either. Am I starting in the wrong place? I put some material on the blog. That went okay, but there are no tags, except at bottom of page. No cloud. No archive. just those words on the side, but no seeming connection..Supposedly there’s a 6 pak filled with crap, which I can’t quite install, and which I don’t need except for gravatars…but as understand they don’t enable you to use your gravatar anyway. As it turns out somehow I get my gravatar to come along in my articles. Is there anyone out there versed in remedial bloggetry?

Sorry. Any of the posts end in 404 errors, the main page (index.php) works.

Without loading the WP environment, the test page won’t work because the function get_option() isn’t defined.

    Hi gduster,

You may want to try and reset your permalinks in your WordPress dashboard to see if that corrects the issue. I hope this helps!

Try resetting the permalinks to WordPress’ default settings. If that works then odds are good your server doesn’t have mod_rewrite enabled and you’ll have to talk to your host.

Thanks everyone for your help. Still not fixed. Here is what I have done so far.

I reset to default permalink settings (works! posts work just fine)
I then checked .htaccess saw changes that should be there.
Changed permalinks back to any of the settings (verified htaccess changed each time
    Created a new post
    Tested post…404 Fail 🙁

My brother owns the server where this is hosted. he claims he has set mod_rewrite. How can I test if Mod_rewrite is the issue?
