 * On most blogs the permalink is the timestamp, but in the WordPress default index
page it is the entry title. I was wondering whether there was any particular
reason why the developers/designers chose that configuration rather than the
   conventional one.

 * Simple. It is what allows others to give feedback on their own blogs, by linking
directly to the post. Would you prefer them to respond without referencing the
original? That and bookmarking an article of interest are the only purposes I
can think of for the permalink. I would be interested to hear what other uses
you have for them, or indeed if you use them at all.

 * Paul Bausch uses timestamp permalinks on [his blog](http://www.onfocus.com/index.asp)
   🙂
