I changed my permalink settings and got a err500… i had to reset my blog but i cant reach articles and static pages anymore. I would fix this through resetting permalinks but every time i go on permalinks through my dashboard, a err500 occurs if i leave the page. after that err500 the wp folder disappears out of my webspace and i can only reach it through the uploader… i think i would need a way to fix the right file manual. can any one help me? what to do?

  • What happens if you temporarily rename your .htaccess?

What does “reset my blog” mean?

Did you set the wrong URI values in Options -> General? You can reset those with this tutorial: http://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/site-url/

Remember, the addresses must be real and not end with file names…

i never saw my .htaccess… reset means that i deleted the whole wp folder and uploaded it again… i really only want the normal permalinks back! T_T

    Where is the blog?

Remember that .htaccess is “hidden”. If looking for it via an ftp client, be sure to toggle on your ftp client’s “Show hidden files” mode.

    the blog is at fnicrew.fn.funpic.de/wordpress

the URI values are right! i think i will have to delete the .htacces but i cant find a setting to change in my uploader wich makes this file visible…

Are you able to GET to Options -> Permalinks?

If so, are you able to set Permalinks to “Default”?

after i get to the page and click on a button i get a err500 and the worldpressfolder disappears! oO

Hmm. What, exactly, are the URI values at Options -> General?

Well… I’m stumped! Is this free hosting kinda deal? I notice ads flying all over the place. Do you have access to apache error logs? Maybe something useful to see in there.

Otherwise I guess we can hope someone brighter than I wanders by…

Oh – one last thing to try. If you can get to your Plugins page, disable all of them and see if this still happens. If you can’t disable them, just use your FTP tool to move ’em out of /wp-content/plugins temporarily.

yes its free webhosting… i dont think that i can watch the error-logs… but i will try that plug-in disabling! thx anyways!

ah i had sth like a auto backup activated mayb it saved the settings?

Let’s refrain from bumping every hour.

cant u post the default .htaccess? so i could copy it right!

That looks like a default WP .htaccess file.

What happened when you tried temporarily renaming it?
