# Permalink Issue

 * I have found numerous posts that are similar to this but none seem to solve my
   problem.
 * I am trying to have “pretty” permalinks on my site. I went to permalinks checked
   Custom Structure and entered in /%postname%/. Then WordPress says…
 * If your .htaccess file were writable, we could do this automatically, but it 
   isn’t so these are the mod_rewrite rules you should have in your .htaccess file.
   Click in the field and press CTRL + a to select all.
 * so I went to my .htaccess file which already contained the code that I was told
   to add. But I pasted in the new code just to be sure. I am still getting a 404
   error.
 * My server uses linux. Does anyone have any suggestions?
