Support » Fixing WordPress » Permalink changes for individual posts

  • Hi.

Just looking for some confirmation on something before I move forward with it.

I am looking to change the URLs of 12 posts very slightly. They all have “2015” in the title and I would like to remove this or change it 2016. These posts generate a decent amount of traffic and are also internally linked quite a lot. SO I really want to confirm I am on the right track here. From what I have read wordpress will automatically redirect from the old permalink to the new one. So if I change my URL from “” to “” then any one trying to access “” will automatically be redirected to “” and any links pointing to “” will automatically go to “”” rather than a 404 error.

I tested this out on a test site and it seemed to work fine but I want to make sure I’m not missing anything here.

Note: I don’t want to change the permalink structure at all, I just want to adjust the slug on a few posts.

Any advice on this is much appreciated.

  • Nate,

Having written posts only to realize I typo’d the title and thus the slug…
Having only realized this AFTER I sent out a promotional email… does functions that way. If you change the slug…the old one will still wok as well.

    Thanks gkovar

Appreciate the reply and the confirmation
