Permalink categories keep on breaking

    I’ve got an enterprise build site (approximately 23k posts, plus 5 pages) that needs a custom permalink structure. It’s soft-“live” at the moment. Only outstanding issue left is this one.

    The reason it needs this structure is to preserve the URL structure when we switch it live from the old site. I don’t want 403s or redirects in place.

    Permalink structure required is:

    /articles/%post_id%.htm

    Articles do work fine. Problem is that the categories (all 26 of them) get rewritten with the same /articles/ element, breaking category views.

    How do I fix this? It’s the final gotcha from site release.
