# Permalink and .htaccess problems

 * Calling all WordPress gurus! I’m hoping someone might be able to help me get 
   my blog functioning properly. I’ve searched the support forums extensively and
   have found a number of other people with the same permalink/.htaccess issue, 
   with the problem unresolved.
 * Problem Description:
    Permalinks are not functioning properly. In the permalink
   settings under options I entered- Structure: /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/
   When I click on an article, the url it tries to pull up in in the above format,
   but it brings up a 404 file not found error.
 * Steps Taken to Resolve:
    Whenever I delete the .htaccess file, the site comes
   back up, but the permalinks don’t function. When I upload the .htaccess file (
   no matter what permissions, I then get the “Internal Server Error” again for 
   any page I try to open up (including admin).
 * When I’ve uploaded the new .htaccess file, I’ve pasted the exact content I’m 
   told to paste in from the admin permalink options area. This crashes the site.
   If I delete the .htaccess file or upload an empty version of it, then the site
   comes back up (permalinks still not working).
 * I don’t understand why wordpress isn’t doing this automatically. Under the admin
   options permalinks section it says it should take care of the .htaccess file 
   automatically, but it can’t since “.htaccess is not write-able”. I don’t understand
   this since right now I’ve got a blank .htaccess file loaded with permissions 
   set to 666. My site pulls up, but the permalinks don’t function. If I go to paste
   in the content on the permalink options page it just crashes my site with the
   Internal server error again.
 * The site is served at:

   The /homefixated/ directory contains the .htaccess file, index.php, and the other
   wordpress files and folders.
 * Oh, and my webhost (cihost) has verified that this is on apache and that mod_rewrite
   is enabled.
 * I’ve been struggling trying to resolve this issue for a week now and am dead 
   in the water. I would be hugely appreciative if someone can help me get this 
   resolved (my last post was left unresolved with the last inquiry being from another
   user having the same problem). Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide
   me with!

 * The only way I found for wp to write to the .htaccess through the program editor
   itself was to set the file 777 which is sort of a bad idea. In any case, it didn’t
   help when I tried it, because it still didn’t work right. My host was no help
   on this though she’s otherwise a pearl of great price. I gave up. It’ s not that
   big a deal to me, though it does seem important to others.
 * I also tried simply having my host install the requisite stuff in the .htaccess(
   she’s really pretty helpful). Still didn’t work. The stuff I can put into the
   file through cpanel works perfectly; otherwise bag it.

 * I figured out my issue! Turns out the Blog address (URI) under general options
   in the WordPress admin was set to the wrong address. Correcting it to match the
   WordPress Address (URI) (and the correct address for the blog) fixed the issue!
