If you have a WP Page and a physical directory with the same name… that screws up your permalinks.

You need to change the slug, too!

what is the SLUG and how do I change that? Thanks
I’m pondering changing your name to Bumpy McBumperPants.
go to Manage -> Pages.
Find the page in question and click “Edit” next to it.
In the right hand column, look for the blue box titled “Page Slug”. (Click the little white “+” if you need to expand it)

Figured out how to use permalinks and it’s much nicer – but one question I can’t find an answer to: Now that the link year, month, day and the slug name, why does workpress append a number to the end of a page with a similar slug but posted on a different day? Shouldn’t the page be allowed to have the same slug, as long as it can be differentiated by the date parameters?
Thanks
Sam
It’s a dummy-proof protection. WP doesn’t permit the creation of two identical slugs.
Ah – too bad, though – would look much cleaner without those numbers at the end of recurring themed pages – be better for it to know that you’ve appended dates and that’s not an issue. Maybe for a future release. There are so many great things about WordPress, can’t complain about this.
Thanks a bunch for the quick reply!
Another thought: I suppose I could create a custom permalink structure without /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/ – just add the dates as part of the slug, as in 10-22-07-slug. Can’t see any problems with that, can you?
I don’t see any problem with that.
Although be careful what permalink structure do you choose in that case: sometimes just the title (slug) is not enough for WP to find the post…
thanks – good to know – have a great night. really appreciate your help.
