Hello, I am very new to this wordpress business, and it’s the first blogware I’ve ever used. I didn’t really like the default design so I somehow combined it with a previous layout I already had planned. But I think in the process I did something really wrong, or deleted something important.
None of the permalinks work. I wasn’t sure exactly what I had to put in the htaccess.
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /journal/
    RewriteRule ^([0-9]{4})/?([0-9]{1,2})?/?([0-9]{1,2})?/?([0-9a-z-]+)?/?([0-9]+)?/?$ /journal/index.php?year=$1&monthnum=$2&day=$3&name=$4&page=$5 [QSA]
    RewriteRule ^category/?(.*) /journal/index.php?category_name=$1 [QSA]
Am I meant to create a folder for the archives? Or is this something that should have been done automatically?
Eep. The comment thing doesn’t work either, but I assume this is because I need to get the permalink thing set up first.
Also, how should I be linking to the categories and such? Right now I’ve manually put links up, but it just leads to a blank page.
Thanks for any help that you can provide.

Ask your host if ‘mod_rewrite’ is enabled on your server.
If it is, permalinks will work – we just need to fix them.
If not, then permalinks with .htaccess will not work.

Ok I’ve asked, and yes, mod_rewrite is enabled on the server.

Ok, after a bit of fiddling, what happens is that it no longer leads to a 404 page, but instead leads to an unformatted (unstyled) page but still without the blog entry.
I am at a lost as to why this occurs. *looks confused*
