 * Hi all-
 * I’m having strange performance problems on my MU install of 3.0. I’ve been testing
   for several weeks, and here is my findings:
 * * When a new site is created, it runs fine performance wise. I’m convinced that
   this, plus other tests, indicates that the server itself is not the problem.
   My instance of MySQL is running on localhost to the server.
    * After some time,
   the site will begin to slow down, particularly on the admin side * This performance
   problem persists, despite using the TwentyTen theme and disabling all plugins.
   I paid particular attention to the domain mapping plugin, which I believed was
   the culprit, but turns out was not. * Apache logs look good. I had some problems
   with the sociable plugin, which I’ve determined is not 3.0 compatible. I’ve uninstalled
   it. * The root domain blog also suffers from the performance problems, even though
   it is the least configured than all the sub-sites. The root blog is running TwentyTen
   and has very few plugins, all of which I disabled at one time to debug. * Potentially
   related, but doubtful, the popular Maintenance mode plugin, when enabled, does
   not allow administrators to log into their site. I’ve reported this but did not
   get a response.
 * If you have any thoughts please let me know. I’m anxious to get moving full speed
   with 3.0, and I’m glad to help with the testing efforts. I’m fairly capable with
   technical problems and troubleshooting, so it took me a while before coming to
   the point of asking for help!
 * Thanks.

 * Are you pulling rss feeds across the sites? Or doing anything related to feeds?

 * Apologies for the delay. I’m using all default settings for the rss feeds. No
   plugins relating to RSS except PuSHPress.

 * And what are you doing with pushpress? If you’re using it to send feeds from
   one blog to another within the one install, that’s the problem.

 * PushPress is a PubSubHubbub plugin for WordPress that includes the hub. I use
   it on my site as network activated.

 * I’ve disabled EVERYTHING. Still extremely slow, particularly in the admin menus.
 * Brand newly created blogs run very fast. Once they’ve been configured for a bit,
   they slow down. Using Twenty Ten. I’m debugging a bit more today. Obviously I
   updated to 3.0 RTM. Anyone else have ideas or experiencing this??

 * Usually whenever I’ve seen this it’s a plugin.
 * Sometimes I’ve seen it happen when someone did something funky with feeds (which
   is why I asked first off). Like if a user puts the RSS widget in the sidebar
   and plunks their own feed in it? Yeah. Not fun.
 * In some rare cases, I’ve seen it happen with either a memory leak between cpanel
   and CentOS, or a hardware failure. (That last one was a fun go aroudn with the
   webhost support.)
 * Basically, for you, this means you’ll have to sit on top of the server – preferably
   via ssh and top – and watch it as it slows to a crawl. If you have WHM you can
   also do it in there.

 * Any look with trouble shooting?
 * I’ve experienced the same problem. I knew I shouldn’t have upgraded to 3.0, as
   I was happy with my theme (which wouldn’t benefit from any of 3.0’s new features)
   and you know, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
 * I decided to upgrade to 3.0 so that I can enable the multisite functionality
   and create a second blog for my wife, and then a third one for my cousin. Both
   of my secondary blogs run fine ([http://shorthandlove.com](http://shorthandlove.com)
   and [http://galleryd.net/landscaping](http://galleryd.net/landscaping)) but my
   primary blog ([http://galleryd.net](http://galleryd.net)) and my admin panel
   have slowed to a crawl. I’ve done all the basic TS steps, but to no avail.

 * Any solutions out there? I am having the same problem. 3-10 seconds to load a
   page in the backend. I have a single wordpress site running fine on same server.
   So I know its not the server or my computer.

 * start with teh usual – turn off plugins, see if that fixes it.

 * My multi-site has just reached over 50 blogs and has slowed to a crawl. It’s
   unusable in the backend – taking a couple of minutes to load each page. Have
   de-activated all plugins and still the same problem?

 * I should have added that front end pages are running fine.

 * Are you on shared hosting or VPS?
 * How much memory do you have?
 * Have you turned on any caching plugins?
 * (BTW, folks, when a topic is months old, it’s usually best to make your own,
   since the pertinent information goes out of date pretty fast 😉 )

 * Shared hosting
    No caching plugins

 * Try installing WP Super Cache then.
 * That said, if you’re at 50 blogs on Shared Hosting, you MAY need to take the
   next step to VPS or whatever elevated hosting your provider has. It depends on
   how much traffic they’re getting, mind.

 * Thanks, but I’m not getting any traffic – i use this site for training . Maybe
   10 visitors per day 🙂
 * Will try super cache i guess, but feels like it’s something more fundamental.
