 * Our university is interested in adding user groups and access control to our
content. We are currently evaluating this plugin. Anyone using this plugin on
a large scale? If so, can you provide some numbers and feedback?
 * We will have a WP multisite instance with 20k active users; registered users
will be much larger. We will have at least 2k groups and each user will belong
in around 200 groups. We will need to customize/modify the plugin to fit our
needs as there is no way we will manage groups through the WP console. We will
   programmatically manage user groups.
 * Any feedback, especially from the author =)

 * Have a look at the approach taken here [http://www.itthinx.com/2013/02/21/groups-forums-performance/](http://www.itthinx.com/2013/02/21/groups-forums-performance/)
 * And I would at least set up a test site replicating the one where you intend
   to use it.

 * FYI – We are an enterprise with different requirements than typical users. I
made a lot of changes to Groups plugin to meet our needs. Yes I realize we can
no longer update the plugin. Unfortunately our changes are probably not useful
to most users; and really not shareable since I modified core functions =( I
can describe the changes if interested.
 * I did some preliminary testing to see how one blog site performs with and without
the group plugin. The decrease in performance was nominal. This was on a very
sparsely populated blog but each page of the blog had multiple acls (10+).
 * In short, we are happy with the performance of this plugin.
