I just registered at your freebuds site and as you indicated the registration form performed as expected. I've checked my inbox and spam folder but after more than 5 minutes no message received from your site.
Question to you: are you seeing the new registrations in your admin backend (in the users section)? You may or may not depending upon the fact that I have not confirmed the link in the email (that never got sent out).
My guess is either your site set up or server doesn't have outgoing email services set up for you. I always tend to use one of my Gmail accounts and their smtp services to send out your site's email.
For a long while I've use "Configure SMTP".
You might try them as a next, easy trouble shooting step to see if you can easily get those messages going.
