• After ten years of running my blog (six with WP), I thought it was about time I started backing it up properly. By that I mean paying for a decent service rather than battling with dodgy plugins that never seemed to work. I did a bit of research into this and decided that since Vaultpress is developed and maintained by Automattic, the developers of WP, I’d be in good hands. And I’ve been proved right.

On two occasions I’ve had to use my ‘restore’ option. Both involved changing host and the first time I needed help with the basics. The second time I had some issues with Vaultpress not hitting my new site. In both situations I had made an error but in both episodes the Vaultpress support team had been friendly yet thorough in their responses. I got my websites back up in no time.

As for the plugin, it’s a no brainer. You need a Vaultpress account, of course, but the plugin does the rest. Just pop in your registration key and make sure it’s all configured correctly on your Vaultpress dashboard, which you can access through your wordpress.com account.

The great thing about WP, the plugins and the internet in general is that it’s all free. In some situations, however, I’m more than happy to pay for someone’s hard work if it’s going to make my life easier. For $5 a month, I can rest easy knowing this plugin is taking care of backup business.
