 * Hello.
 * I have a quick question to generate PDF thumbnail image.
    As you can see in the
   below link, all of PDF thumbnail images look same.
 * [http://192.168.10.111/wordpress/furninova-product-images](http://192.168.10.111/wordpress/furninova-product-images)
 * How can I make each thumbnail as “first page preview”of each pdf file?
 * Thanks,
    Hyemin

 * Hi Hyemin,
 * In order to have PDF previews, you either need [Ghostscript](http://ghostscript.com/)
   installed or you need the [Imagick PHP extension](http://php.net/manual/en/imagick.setup.php)
   installed. The latter may or may not handle PDFs depending how it’s installed.
 * If you go the ghostscript route, once it’s installed, you’ll need to set the
   Ghostscript executable path at `Dashboard -> Settings -> Document Gallery ->
   Advanced`, then enable the thumbnail generation method at the bottom of General
   tab.

 * The last 4 documents that I have uploaded display only a standard pdf icon image
   and not a “fancy” thumbnail. None of the settings have changed since the initial
   upload of documents from about a month ago. Ref URL: [http://chamberrx.com](http://chamberrx.com),

 * Hi Kennpenn,
 * I do see a few thumbnails with the default PDF icon, though it’s not the last
   4… That shouldn’t matter for your question though.
 * Some PDFs simply fail to process due to the underlying software being used to
   perform the conversions. Can you tell me what thumbnail generation methods you
   are using? Ghostscript? IMagick?
 * Additionally, if you navigate to `Dashboard -> Settings -> Document Gallery -
   >Advanced` and enable logging, then go to the `Thumbnail Management` tab and
   delete the thumbnails for the attachments where generation failed, then finally
   go back to the gallery and re-generate, do you get any warning or error messages
   logged?

 * Hello, we need your help to configure your download page with your extension “
   Documet Gallery”. Indeed no thumbnail (image of document) will appear. Only one
   is visible generic pdf icon appears. Yet we configure this option in the settings.
   Moreover our files appear under each other. Could not be online on the page.
   Do you have the solution to our problems. Thank you in advance. Best regards

 * Hi enluminures,
 * Regarding your files appearing under each other, it sounds like you either have
   the `columns` attribute set to 1 or you have the `descriptions` attribute enabled—
   it is most likely the latter, in which case you need to do this `[dg descriptions
   =false]` (or update the default settings under `Dashboard -> Settings -> Document
   Gallery`.
 * Regarding getting just the default thumbnails, which thumbnail generators do
   you currently have enabled (which checkboxes are checked at the bottom of `Dashboard-
   > Settings ->Document Gallery`)? You would need Ghostscript or (less reliable)
   IMagick enabled in order for Document Gallery to be able to process PDF files
   and generate a thumbnail.

 * Hi,
 * I had the same problem with missing PDF thumbnails on my site (the problem occured
   approx. December 2015), and none of the above solved my issue – although I never
   got to check out which Ghostscript version is installed on the server.
 * Anyway, I accidentally stumbled upon the (or a) solution, which is that the PDF
   file names must be written without spaces. As soon as replaced spaces with f.
   ex. hyphens, a thumbnail was successfully generated for each and every PDF file.

 * Wow! Good catch.
 * That is indeed a bug. We just pushed out version `4.2.2` of DG which should address
   this.
 * Out of curiosity, how did you manage to get an attachment into WP that had spaces
   in the filename? Default WP media upload behavior replaces spaces with dashes
   so you would have had to go through some other means. I was able to test the
   issue by mucking with the DB, but I’m guessing you weren’t doing that.

 * Hi, Dan,
 * You’re right, I didn’t get the attachments into my site through the default WP
   media upload.
    I always prefer uploading via fileZilla – because it’s closer
   to how I’m used to copy/move documents on my laptop, and because fileZilla never
   asks any questions regarding file sizes etc.
 * Thanks for the update – installed!
 * Sigve
