PayPal Standard Checkout Issue

  • I’m helping a client set up a site and we’ve got everything set except that when we try to use the PayPal checkout, we don’t get a prompt to pay with a debit or credit card like we should. It will only accept payments via PayPal and only offers the ability to pay with a credit/debit card by creating a paypal account.

I was under the impression and was told and have seen that you can check out with the PayPal gateway with either a paypal account or debit/credit card and from what I’ve read from woocommerce it should be supported.

Is there something that we’re missing or something else that my client is supposed to do that I’m not aware of? I’ve consulted with other site owners who utilize the PayPal payment method and they are at a loss as well.

  • Have you enabled PayPal Standard? And I’m not talking about on the Payment Gateways screen where there is a checkmark, I’m talking about clicking the link above for PayPal (small text just below the tabs) and enabling it.

I am having the same problem where it is asking me to log in or sign up for an account. Anyone has a solution for this?

FYI, so I created a test product and turned off the sandbox in the woocommerce settings. Upon checking out on the Paypal website, it does allow me to pay without creating a Paypal account. For some reason, that option is not available when I am testing with sandbox. 🙁
