There has been a couple of instances where a customer has contacted us stating that PayPal Express is taking them back to our website to complete an order, where they would have expected the order to have been completed in the PayPal modal. I believe I have reproduced this before myself and found it strange that this would be the case.

Is there a setting within the PayPal for Woocommerce plugin which determines whether the order is completed on the PayPal site or the user is sent back to our site to confirm? I’ve just had a look, and the option to skip the final review page (which sounds like the right option to me) is already checked, see below.

Do you think these cases are just anomalies or is there something else I need to configure to ensure the order is completed in the PayPal modal?

    Any help much appreciated

    Hi @robwhitaker1 ,

I’m sorry for the inconvenience. So you are saying that they are going to PayPal, paying and the returned to Order review page? Are you able to find which way they tried to pay? Like they did from regular checkout page or using smart buttons?

Also, in Paypal express settings, do you have skip final review checked and also disabled terms and conditions as well? And if this is happening with some of them then their should be a unique scenario which we need to know so that we can run some test and if we are able to reproduce this issue we will be happy to make adjustments.

Please check those and let me know.
    Thanks!

Hi Oliver, thanks for getting back to me.

Yes, that seems to be the issue – from memory the one time it has happened to me I was returned to the checkout page and had to press a ‘place order’ button.

Skip final review is checked, and terms and conditions page isnt set in woocommerce (I couldnt finds any T&C settings within the plugin settings so assume this is the option you mean?)

I don’t know how I would tell by which means the customer accessed the gateway; smart buttons or in the list of gateways. I have just run some real world tests and I cant reproduce the issue by checking out as a guest or using an account, by accessing it either way.

I may have to wait for this to happen again and hope that the next instance can give me some more insight into exactly how they produced the issue.

Thanks for your help, I’ll be in touch if I can offer an more info
