    Hi there,

up till now I have configured my WooCommerce shop in a way that the customer will only get an email with a link to PayPal once I have accepted and confirmed their order (in addition to the online shop we have a small store with a lot of unique items and sometimes products are being ordered before I can remove them from the online shop). But since I am losing too many customers on the way (aka they never pay) I was thinking of changing the process, accepting orders automatically and authorizing payments instead.
Do I understand correctly that in this case I would be able to remove certain items from the order if need be and only capture the updated lower amount?

    Thanks for clarifying!

    Hello Jenny,
According to the PayPal developer’s documentation

You can capture less than the original authorization, full authorization amount, or even more than the authorization amount (up to 115% of the original authorization or $75 USD more, whichever is less)

So you should be fine with your scenario!

    Hi Nicola,
that sounds fantastic, thank you very much! I changed all the settings, let’s wait for the next order and see what happens 😉

So, the next order came in this morning. The payment was authorized (I didn’t need to change the amount though), however it I didn’t manage to capture the payment through WooCommerce. I changed the order first to “processing”, then to “finished”, but I had to go to Paypal and process the payment manually. Not a big problem once I figured out how to do it, but I thought this was supposed to happen automatically ?!?

    Hi @miss-newyork,

Let’s try it this way. In the order actions in the top right when you’re editing an order, do you see an option to “capture charge?”

    capture

Try using that next time to capture the funds and see if it works for you. Let us know what you find out.

No, that’s not one of the options I have.

I have the first three, then something like “resend order confirmation” and “manually send paid order”. It’s in German, I don’t even understand, what that last one is meant to be, exactly, but apparently it’s got something to do with notification emails.

    Hi Jenny

The capture charge is the one that you’ll need to have in order for this setup to work. At this point, I think it would be best to move to a ticket.

Please contact us at WooCommerce.com > My Account > Support. You may need to create an account before you can access that page.

Please include a link to this forum thread, so that we can keep track of what’s already been done. Also please make sure to include a copy of your system status report.

We will be able to help you further there.
