  • After struggling through the three different methods for changing my domain name ( so that my existing blog/site can be browsed to, using a new (better) domain name, Hostgator rescued me with a really simple way to do this:

    Two steps:
    1. If you have the new domain name as an add-on domain, remove it from add-on domains
    2. Change your primary domain name to the new domain name at (you go to “View Hosting packages”, and there is a “Change my domain” command at the top).

Done. It also changes automatically to the new domain name in the Dashboard>Settings>General, while preserving your dashboard password.

  • I have a site at a webhost, they offer WordPress so I installed it and created a new site for the same domain – is this the option I want? I’m not finding anything that seems to fit my issue. I have changed the wp-options in mySQL and I’ve been able to get the domain to go to the index but none of my pages are pulling up. I’m missing something – I think it’s because when I created them they all have “wordpress” in them….

I’d like to point out that changing domains in the hosting contorl panel will only update your site like that if you’ve installed it using Fantastico, or one of the other auto-installers out there. If you’ve done your own manual install your websites settings will not be changed.
