Support » Fixing WordPress » Pasting from other formats

  • For the past year, I’ve been writing my posts in Word, opening the Word doc with Google Docs, and copy/pasting into WordPress. I’ve never had a problem with the formatting — the text looks exactly as it did in Word.

Now, when I go through the same process (Word-Google Docs-copy/paste) I get a giant block of text, no formatting, when I preview the post.

I could live with this, but when I attempt to press enter and create breaks between the paragraphs, it’s not reflected when I preview the post.

I’ve tried pasting in HTML, but that didn’t work. I also tried copying from Google Docs to Notepad, but I get the same results in WordPress — a giant block of text with no formatting.

I don’t have Word on my home computer, so I rely on saving docs in Word on a flash drive, or emailing them, and then opening in Google Docs. From there, I post into WordPress.

Why is the pasting problem happening now? And what can I do to fix this? Thanks.

when I go through the same process (Word-Google Docs-copy/paste)

    Instead, try:
    – using the button on the visual text editor that is built in to WordPress that will strip Microsoft Word formating (I have never used it). It is labeled “Paste From Word”.
    – or paste your text into NotePad (or another text editor) first, then copy from NotePad into WordPress (I always do this way). Or use Windows LiveWriter.
The connection was lost…: Most likely this has to do with your server setting. Have you contacted and discussed this with your hosting provider?

I tried going from Google Docs to Notepad to WordPress…but the same jumbled block of text appeared in WP.

I did find a work around — open with Zoho Writer, then paste into Notepad, and finally paste into WP in HTML mode. I lost all formatting, but I can now create line breaks and can view the text in a clean format.
