Password sent to wrong gmail address

  • dougkpga

Hi I have a site I set up for a friend.

We also set up a gmail account for him.

We havent really logged into it for months as I am waiting for his content.

Anyway I remembered the password but not before I filled out the lost password form.

The password reset got sent to the wrong gmail address…

[ redacted, we don’t like posted email addresses here ]

I put this in as the email for admin by mistake. I cant access this account.

It should have been sent to

    [ see above ]

    which I can access.

I ended up finding the original password for the site as well.

    This is a nightmare.

Is there anything I can do please? (apart from rebuild the site).

    thx doug

As you have the password so you can log in & change the email address for the administrative user in the users section of wp-admin

also check you have the correct email address listed in settings -> general

On a side-note, it is not a good idea to have a user with admin rights with the default ‘admin’ username.

    Thanks for your help cubecolour.

I thought I found the original password but it doesn’t work.

So when I request lost password it goes to a gmail address that I can’t log in to.

I am back to square one.

Thanks for the advice about admin.

I have been changing my sites to solve this.

    Thanks again,

Open up your database and change user email ID under wp_users table using phpMyAdmin.

This post shows how to change WordPress password using phpMyAdmin – http://www.prasannasp.net/how-to-change-wordpress-password-using-phpmyadmin/

You can use the same method to change email address as well.
