    Website is http://www.floridakeysphotography.net

The password reset email works fine. Users receive it, and are taken to the password reset page on the site. But when you get to the last field ‘confirm new password’, it cannot be filled in with more than one character, and it deletes the other ‘new password’ fields. At this point, you cannot reset to a new password. Any help on why this might be happening would be great.

I would encourage anyone to register as a user on the site (top left), and then do a password reset themselves, receive the password reset email, and then walk through the steps to better understand what I’m talking about.

    Thanks!

  • Hi @dandpdev

Sorry to hear about the hassle. To try and diagnose where the problem is, try the following:

    1. De-activate all plugins at once.
    2. Switch over to the Twenty Fifteen theme.

    Re-test. Is there any change?

    Hi Misplon,

    Thank you for the suggestion.

I did as you said, and I was able to successfully reset my password. But it took me to the wordpress password reset screen. I then activated all of the plugins again, but kept 2015 theme active. It still worked.

I am thinking it’s the Vantage theme that is keeping me from resetting the password, since when the Vantage theme is active, I am taken to the password reset screen on a web page, and not to the wordpress password reset screen. Does that make sense? Any idea on how I can get the password reset to work with Vantage theme active?

    Thanks!

Glad to hear you’re making progress. Try testing with Vantage and all other plugins de-activated. A plugin is most likely adding the functionality you’ve mentioned. There isn’t anything native to Vantage that would restructure this default behaviour.

Okay, I tried the password reset with Vantage active, and all plugins de-activated. Now I’m staying on the actual site (not being re-directed to the default wordpress password screen) when clicking ‘lost password’. I receive the email with the password reset link, and then am brought to the reset password screen, with an error message:

Sorry, that key does not appear to be valid. Please try again.

I am getting that everytime (tried 3 different password resets and email links).

    http://www.floridakeysphotography.net/password-recovery-2/?action=lostpassword&invalidkeyerror=1

Would a list of plugins help? Though the plugins are de-activated and I’m getting a completely different error than the original one (couldn’t confirm new password).

Any next steps? Thanks again for your help and quick responses!

Thanks for working the problem. Going on this:

    Try this:

    1. Login to your server via FTP or Hosting File Manager. Download wp-config.php to your desktop.
    2. Change the security keys and salts:

Hi Misplon, thanks again for the suggestion. I changed the security keys/salts. No luck. I also deleted the activation key in the wp_users table via phpmyadmin. That allowed me to successfully use the password reset link from the email. But, now I’m still not able to fill in the ‘confirm password’ field. So kind of back to square 1. Not sure what else to try.

I’m happy to try any other suggestions you might have. Thanks again for your help so far.

Thanks for your feedback. I’m afraid I haven’t done much work in this area so don’t know of any further solutions off hand.

So to confirm, with all plugins de-activated and a default theme like Twenty Fifteen running, does the issue still continue?

    (@dandpdev)

To confirm, with all plugins de-activated, and a default theme (twenty fifteen) activated, the issue does not continue.

Apologies for the delay. That’s a great step to make, we know the WordPress installation itself is solid. Are you able to properly establish at what point the issue comes back?

    Thread Starter dandpdev

    (@dandpdev)

That’s okay, thank you for the continued help. The problem happens once the vantage theme is activated. The password reset works on the twenty fifteen theme with all plugins activated & de-activated.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for hanging in there.

    1. Does password reset work with Vantage activated and all plugins de-activated?
    2. Try switching to another theme then deleting Vantage and re-installing.

Having exactly the same issue on my Vantage install!
Unfortunately my support on the AppThemes site expired 2 days ago, so I can no longer see what’s going on in their support forums. Any help much appreciated.

    Hi @dandpdev

Sincere apologies, I missed the important part of this thread. We have a theme called Vantage, but it’s not your theme. The good news is that the troubleshooting steps we’ve gone through are the same for any theme/most problems in WordPress. Hopefully AppThemes can help with the problem further now that you have it firmly narrowed down to the theme.

    Here is our theme: https://wordpress.org/themes/vantage/
Here is the theme you’re using: https://www.appthemes.com/themes/vantage/

Here is a post on the confusion if you’d like to read more:

@gb_online, AppThemes support would need to help further.

Ah! Interesting. Good to know. Thanks for all of your help!

Thanks for your understanding and apologies for the wasted time.

Sounds like we did manage to isolate the problem to the theme though, that will help with any further support threads.

    All the best.
