Support » Fixing WordPress » Password reset / login attempts to wp-admin block access

  • I’m actually contacting you about http://www.lanternaeducation.com a site hosted by someone else but with a WordPress installation.

I am facing MAJOR issues with trying to access the site, specifically, if someone tried to log in to /wp-admin and tries unsuccessfully or tries to change their password, our IP address seems to be blocked. Currently I cannot gain access to http://www.lanternaeducation.com or our sister companies site http://www.kognity.com through our current IP address, we keep getting connection timed out!

I’d appreciate any help you can give ASAP as this is business critical

see if any .htaccess rule allows only a specific IP.

Thanks for the tip – I tried locating it but couldn’t find that file

.htaccess files are all hidden files, so may not be visible through an FTP client unless you change the preferences of the FTP tool to show all files, including the hidden files. Some hosts (e.g. Godaddy) may not show or allow you to edit .htaccess if you install WordPress through the Godaddy Hosting Connection installation.

    Hi – me again!

I tried this but I couldn’t find anything blocking a specific IP address in .htaccess file – do you have any other suggestions?

I would contact the hosting provider and ask them why the IP address is blocked.
