• The password reset link is not working for my wordpress installation.

The moment I get the password reset link , It says “Sorry, that key has expired. Please try again.” on clicking it . Its hardly few seconds and link is “expiring” . Any clues ?

  • Rather than clicking on it, copy and paste the URL into your browser and hit return. I use a console email client and it’s something I often have to do, not just with WordPress.

That does not work in my case. I still get “Link expired” . Seems like there is some misconfiguration issue . The link should expire in few hours or days , but some how the link gets expired the moment its created.

Also , I run a forum and we have thousands of wordpress users who will use this functionality . So we need to fix this , we cant ask everyone to paste the link in browser and press enter .

Have you seen any thing like this in past ?

Do you have any customisation that deals with members on your site, such as a plugin. Unfortunately it seems like the way to debug your problem is to deactivate plugins, revert to the default twenty-thirteen theme and see if the problem is still there.

Yes, I have Wishlist Membership plugin activated. Its a paid membership plugin which takes care of password reseting .. Do you think that can cause the issue with default password reset option ?

Note that it has its own password reset option . Just that I am not giving that option to users .

Possibly. Can you temporarily disable Wishlist, try a password reset and see what happens?

I am having the same problem on a site. Running 3.7.1 and my users are getting the expired link to reset the password. All updates are current, but this issue has only been reported since a recent update went through. I have notification emails about password resets the day before the update (28th), but none since.
I have tested this, and the same reset key is being supplied for all password reset attempts – different users, browsers – same result. So it appears the system is not creating new keys for resets- just sending the same old expired one.
Have deactivated all plugins that might work on password/user to test and it has made no difference.
Any other options? Have a site with a lot of users sending this issue.

@manish@jagoinvestor.com – ever find a solution for this? i am having same problem…

@cianciabella – see the post right above yours – if you need help, you also need to start your own thread and the answer will be here:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password

I’m confused as to why you would compel people to start a ton of threads on the same topic instead of posting a solution for this…

It seems to be a common problem related to most recent versions of WP.

Because that’s how these forums work – as per the forum guidelines:

Posting your own topic is smiled upon. Unless you are using the same version of WordPress on the same physical server hosted by the same hosts with the same plugins, theme & configurations as the original poster, do not post in someone else’s thread. Start your own topic.

And BTW, this thread is referencing WP3.7.1 – which is not the current version any longer.

    Well, to post my solution.

I updated WordPress to 3.8 and also updated Wishlist Member to version 2.71.1885 and it fixed the issue.

Hope that will help you Manish.
