• I want to password protect some of my pages for writers that are contributing to projects I am working on. Unfortunately, when I password protect a page, I get this message when I try to look at the page: “NOT FOUND: Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn’t there.” No box for entering a password, nothing. And, if I add a blog post to the password protected page…THE BLOG POST SHOWS UP FOR ALL THE WORLD TO SEE!!! But still, the original page content is not there at all. What in the @#$! is going on?

The page I am testing out the password protection on is http://www.deadmanpublishing.com/test-for-blog/. If you see “THIS IS A TEST” then you are seeing a blog post on a password protected page without ever entering a password.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

That does not solve the problem. (And, sorry, switching themes is not an answer as the theme is designed specifically for a business.) I do have the problem half solved. Once I turn off blog posts to the …/test-for-blog/ page, suddenly, the password entry box shows up. So it seems like you cannot have blog posts on a password protected page, which makes no sense at all. Is there a way to have both content and blog posts on the same page, and a way to password protect that page without password protecting every individual blog post?

Esmi suggested switching themes as a temporary troubleshooting measure, not a fix. It will enable you to see whether or not the problem is related to the theme you are using, so you might have a better idea of what needs fixing.

If the problem goes away after switching themes, then you know you need to look at the theme. If the problem still exists, then you need to try deactivating plugins to see whether one is causing the issue. Then when you know what is breaking it you will have more information to which will be better to find help in fixing it.

Either way you probably only need to switch themes for a minute or so – long enough to see whether the problem goes away.

Okay. I will try it out. The plugins are not doing anything though.

Can I have a password protected page and put blog posts on that same page? When I put blogposts on a page, they seem to cover over the content originally on that page and override the original password protection.

This (my last post) seems to be the crux of my original problem.

Okay, esmi is absolutely right. The theme is not set up for blogging with comments and all that. But I can’t change my theme, as it is designed specifically for my site. Is there a way to alter the theme EASILY to accept blog posts and comments from users. (I am not a programmer. Please help.)

    Thanks.
