Password protected pages are not working. Goes to wp-pass.php (Page Not Found)

The ability to password protect a page on my site has suddenly stopped working after updating to v3.4.

When a password is entered on a password protected page, it redirects to a "Page not found" with the wp-pass.php extension in the URL.

    Any advice?

PS: It was working prior to 3.4 and I haven't installed any new plugins.

    Hi BStofko,

There was another post I found at http://wordpress.org/support/topic/upgraded-to-34-now-password-protected-pages-not-working that provided info regarding this. (But, I decided simply to not use the plugin any longer.)

But you can find very specific details regarding this problem at http://tummel.me/wordpress-3-4-custom-password-form/.

    I hope this helps you.

    Hi Gary,

    Thanks for the quick response.

For others who might find this thread, version 3.4 drops wp-pass.php from the core, and instead uses /wp-login.php?action=postpass. So any custom protected login forms need to be updated to reflect this change.

I have the same problem but cannot locate the wp-pass.php in any of my files. Nor, can I find wp-login.php?action=postpass. I did find the wp-login.php file but like I said, cannot find wp-login.

    Any suggestions?

    Hello All,

I'm on Site5, and all of my clients on Site5 are having the same problem.

With all the brute force attacks to the wp-login.php form, one security measure was to block any attempt at these string style parameters (ex. ?action=postpass).

@esmi is right though, this is the same problem essentially, but for different reasons. Having this issue in 3.5.1 is a different problem than it having to do with a customized password form.

So, this is a host issue.

Contact your host, ask them to whitelist the ?action=postpass. That should help you with this problem.

I opened a thread here for this specific problem -- please post there for any follow ups.
