  • can anyone tell me how I can password protect an area of my website so that only permitted users can access and download material please?
It is a normal training website that visitors can look at the training courses. I want another area for the instructors to be able to view and download powerpoint presentations.

    Many thanks

  • Review the information here: Roles_and_Capabilities.

While a lot of that page has information about how users can create content on your page, the roles and capabilities also cover what they can see when they are logged in and browsing posts and pages.

Thanks for this Jess. I read over it and I’m not sure that’s what I actually want to do with the site.

I suppose it’s something like a member’s area I want but just for the instructors to go in, access their material for delivery and download what they need.

The site I have is built using the WooThemes Canvas and part of me thinks I need to create a sub-directory and use Optimize Press to build this part of the site. I’m really not sure how to do it if I’m honest!!!

I was also thinking perhaps there is a plugin that might do this i.e. segregate specific pages of my site that need password access……..

    Thanks again though

Check the plugins directory for creating a member’s area –

This plugin might do the job as well.

    WordPress Membership Plugin

Thanks Jess and Vayu, I’m just trawling through all the possibilities in the plugin repository. I have also opened up the paidmembershipspro site and am looking through that also.

My problem is that I’ve never created a site before with differing levels of permissions so I need to get my head around how that works also!!

Thanks for your advice though, all is welcomed
