i know this sounds trite, but every time I need to get back into my admin screen, the password does not work.
I am forced to “reset” password and go through those steps to get IN to the site and then put the password back to something else.

I have 6 other wordpress installs that each work perfectly. It is just this one that is being a jerk.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!!

Next time it happens and you can’t login, try clearing your browser cookies. See if you can login then.

-if that does not resolve the issue, try deactivating all plugins. If the problem goes away, activate them individually to find the culprit?

If you don’t have access to to your admin area, try deactivating them manually via FTP or phpMyAdmin.

i must have something messed up in the “innerds” of the wordpress site. i tried clearing cookies and tried it on all 3 browsers..
it is odd that if I type in the “wrong” password, the login section wiggles and says “wrong, etc..” but if I type in the correct password, it just clears it out and goes back to the login screen leaving my username auto-filled.

the password re-set always works, but clearly not the most efficient way to login to my site.. i’ll keep poking around.

Have tried this as I suggested in my previous post:

-if that does not resolve the issue, try deactivating all plugins. If the problem goes away, activate them individually to find the culprit?

If you don’t have access to to your admin area, try deactivating them manually via FTP or phpMyAdmin.

yep… sorry forgot to mention this is a fairly fresh install and only had the hello dolly and amisket in there.. removed both so she’s naked now.
Starting to think my theme could be causing problems. it was built by someone else, so I didn’t have control over that part….

If I wanted to compare the files to a “normal” theme or the default, which files would you recommend that I focus on?

(completely appreciate your help BTW… always amazed that there are people out there (like yourself) willing to help others out)

-try switching to the default theme (Twenty Ten) by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes to rule out any theme-specific issue?

If you don’t have access to your admin area, then access your server via FTP or SFTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

-If the above steps do not resolve the issue, Download WordPress again and replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies. This should replace your core files without changing your content and settings in wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory.

Note that some uploaders may not overwrite files reliably, so delete the original files before replacing them.

tried switching the theme but no dice.
backed up the config and content items and exported my data.
    Reinstall seemed to fix it….

    odd one.

Thank you again for your assistance!
