I have Relevanssi set to index posts and pages. It works fine, except that it is not indexing my events, which are a custom post type. If I select “events” in the Indexing Options > Post Types section, save, and choose “Index Unindexed Posts”, it overwrites everything, and now just displays my events in the search results. I tried rebuilding the whole index, but I get the same results. It’s like it’s overriding all other post types and not letting any other post types be indexed.

Relevanssi can have only one index, with one indexing settings. If you want to index posts, pages and events, you need to choose all three post types and rebuild the index.

Once you’ve done that, you can then restrict searches to a particular set of post types from a search form, but the index needs to have all post types you ever want to search.

Yes, I did do that. I checked Pages, Posts, and Events and then I rebuilt the index. However, when I do that, ONLY the events end up in the search results.

Something on your site is restricting the search to just events. If you force the post type, you get results from other post types:

I’d look at theme settings, or the theme functions.php: somewhere there is a restriction that forces the search to show just events.
