Support » Fixing WordPress » parse error – syntax error

  • I know I should never ever touch this part of the code but I was taking a look at a page of java (which I can’t read at all, I was just looking at it) and I think I accidentally typed something and now EVERY page associated with the account I was working on just says this:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting ‘)’ in /home/content/37/8581937/html/wp-content/themes/f8-lite/images.php on line 58

I’m freaking out a little bit, I cannot access the site at all. Not the editor, not the login page, nothing. Is there someone I can contact who can override this or is there anything I can do?

Also I was working on a custom domain.

  • You’ll need to access the site via FTP and either try and find the code you added and delete it, or re upload your entire theme. If you can’t access the WordPress Admin, this will have to be done via FTP.

Thank you so much. Would it be possible for you to point me towards somewhere I can read up about that? I honestly wouldn’t know where to begin. And I’m kind of in panic mode on top of that.

WordPress has a good article on FTP and how to use some FTP clients. Let me know if you need more direction.

I have a mac so I’m trying to use cyberduck but it won’t even make the connection. Everything is correct but I’m being told that the login failed over and over again. I have zero training in this kind of thing, I was just trying to edit the stylesheet, so I don’t know if I’ll be able to do this on my own. Is there really no way the folks at wordpress could do something if I asked?

If you need more advanced help, you can always post over on the job board.

Mmm nevermind, I’ll try to coach myself. I’m already working for someone else who owns the site (just to make visual edits). I’ll just try again.
