Support » Plugin: Smush - Compress, Optimize and Lazy Load Images » Paid Version Might be Better

  • The free version of this plugin doesn’t seem to compress images any further than PhotoShop “Save for Web” can. Maybe the paid version is better.

  • Hey inhousesalem-paul,

First of all thanks for taking time to write a review and rate WP Smush 🙂

With regards to free and premium versions yes there are differences there, WP Smush Pro aside from other additional options does have Super Smush that uses lossy compression vs lossless that free version uses so you can definitely compress image further.

But the obvious advantage compared to PhotoShop “Save for Web” in both versions is that you can smush images on upload (you’ll find that option in Media -> WP Smush -> Settings -> Automatically smush my images on upload) so the whole hassle with saving for web per image is removed as images uploaded to your media library are optimized automatically so it’s pretty much set and forget vs having to do this for every image you want to upload if that makes sense.

If you want to give premium version a try you can always sign up for a free 14 day trial so you can test that as well 🙂

    Best regards,
    Bojan
