Pagination on Categories won't show up

I’ve browsed several similar posts on here, but I still can’t find the answer.

I tried adding “$paged” variables (tried both “paged” and “page”) and it didn’t show up.

I know that my category.php file is affecting the page because when I tried to a query_posts I could successfully change the number of posts shown, but I can’t get pagination to show up!

I’ve already spent over an hour trying to fix this problem, but nothing seems to work…
