  • Nice interface improvement in the new version, but (the horror…) you changed pagination for endless scrolling. WTF? This is very bad usability practice. Now we don’t have any clue “where we are” in the search results. Often I make notice of page numbers where I saw suitable pictures so I can navigate quickly between them when narrowing down my choice. With endless scrolling users are lost in an endless sea of pictures.

Please add at least an option in the settings to choose between scrolling and pagination.

On the Pixabay.com website, we’re definitely favoring paginated search results, but we do get the wish for endless scrolling from time to time. In the WP plugin, I think it’s a draw, which one is the better choice. You can always refine your search terms to only get what you really want.

It’s very unlikely that we’ll implement an option to choose between the two navigation types. It would involve a rather complex code base. However, if several users join in and also prefer pagination over infinite scrolling, we can always revert back.

For the time being, if pagination is important to you, you may downgrade to the plugin version 2.15, which you can download from here:

“Version 2” is the link you should be looking for in this blog post.

    Thanks for your feedback!

    Kind regards, Simon

    Hi Simon,

thanks for your thoughts, I appreciate your feedback. Just curious: what was the reason for changing to endless scrolling?

Yes, maybe I’ll go back to V2.15… I will compare the two. Thanks for providing an option to downgrade. Although I must say that I really like the new big thumbs.

The reason for changing to infinite scroll was mainly: trying out new things, experimenting and seeing what works better and what is preferred by you and other users.

We have infinite scrolling in our mobile apps for Pixabay – and that’s a good choice. The plugin seemed a bit like the mobile app. It’s not a full browser window, where the search results are displayed, so there’s rather limited space.

    Cheers, Simon

Yes, I see your point. It’s good to try out things sometimes, and just see what the results will be.

However, personally I never see any advantages of endless scrolling. Long scrolling, no problem, we’re used to that. But endless scrolling makes me and many other users (according to usability research) feel lost, having no boundaries, no context, and no navigational structure anymore.

I hope other users will give their opinion on this matter as well. I am curious bout their opinions.

Well, enough of this. Your plugin is great anyway 🙂
