Pages worked before, but now can’t create

    OK, when I first installed WP on my new server, pages worked fine. Well, I created one, and it worked/still works. I just tried to create another one, and while it creates the page, when trying to view it I get The requested URL /journal/test-contact-form/ was not found on this server. .htaccess is set to 755, and when I open it I can see the rewrite rule for the first page I created but not the newest one. What might be causing this?

    Read in codex to set it to 666, which I did. I went to the permalink tab from the admin menu, and it gives me the error that my .htaccess is not writable. Should I set my wordpress directory to a certain chmod too?
