In Yoast SEO 6.3, we have removed the feature to noindex subpages of archives. This explains why you are now getting duplicate title/description on your category pages. This issue can be solved by using template variables on those pages. You may want to add the %%page%% variable.

The Noindex subpages option is no longer available from Yoast SEO v6.3 as Google has gotten much better at paginated series, and it’s now actually detrimental to use.

While the subpages are appearing for you on the search results, Yoast SEO should generate the rel canonical that would let search engines know that it is a paginated page.

If it doesn’t in your case, you can use the %%page%% template variable to your homepage meta description which will generate a unique page number to the paginated pages.

After removing the support for the no index subpages, page 2, page 3… are getting indexed in the google search. Moreover, also having duplicate content issue in the search results.

I have the same issue since the option was removed from the plugin months ago. There are thousands of pages with duplicated meta descriptions reported in the G console. Only meta descriptions are reported as duplicated.

I manually added the %%page%% variable at the end of the seo title of each wordpress category, tag page, woocommerce category and woocommerce tag page (and they are really a lot):

The variable is also added to the templates in the plugin settings:

Rel canonical on sub-pages shows the correct urls – mysite.com/category/page/2 ; mysite.com/category/page/3 etc.

For some reason, the issue is not being fixed.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks for your time!

Each WordPress category and tag, as well as each Woocommerce category and tag, has its own custom meta description.

Will adding %%page%% at the end of each meta description solve the issue?

    Thanks
