I have had someone doing my website and I am trying to add things to it. He sent me my link and my password, but when it gets to the dashboard page, the menu doesn’t show PAGES, only shows POSTS, MEDIA, COMMENTS, PROFILE. Why won’t the option for PAGES show up, I can’t do any editing

Look under Users screen – what does it say under the Role for your name?

Okay, still trying to edit. A lot of the images I can’t change and I don’t like the set-up, so I want to change Themes, but it won’t show APPEARANCE on the dashboard. What is wrong now?

Is there anyway, I can take my already started website, through someone else and change it over into my own account?

I’m not sure what you mean – where is your site hosted now? Did you check on the user role?

Sorry, I’m not good at this and have never attempted to use WordPress before. I have a guy who has been doing my website and gave me the backdoor to make some changes, but I don’t like the layout, or hardly anything about it. He always wants me to come in and see him for updates, but it takes too long and not much gets done and I don’t have the time then, so he finally gave me the username and password to do some editing, but I can’t change the Homepage, since the APPEARANCE option won’t show up. I thought maybe I had to download WordPress on my computer and did that, I had to make up and account for myself. I don’t have the URL address in my name, but am wondering if I can some how start over again in the account I set up. Hope that explains it. And what is my user role?

What is the site URL? Is everything in his name? Did he set up the hosting for the site and everything?

It sounds like he has not given you full admin access to the site – so that’s why some of the dashboard is not visible. Is there a “Users” on the left hand side of your dashboard? If so, click on it and see what your user information says.

No you do not have to install WordPress on your computer – at least not for site that is on the internet. You CAN put a copy of it on your local computer but that won’t be accessible on the internet and it’s not that simple to move a WP site.

I am also having a problem with the DASHBOARD, I`m logged in as admin, I can see the menu on the DASHBOARD but the screen is white how do you help?

Hey Laura – I realized I may not have said that very well – I certainly don’t want to discourage you from getting complete control of your site :)! From what you have said, the guy is jerking you around and not being very ethical IMHO. It’s your site, you’re paying for it and you should be able to do anything you want with it.
That said, if you made some agreement with him, that might affect the situation, but hopefully you can sort this out with him and get the site moved if that’s what you want to do. It’s certainly possible to move a site to another hosting company – people do it all the time. But you would need to have full access to the site and the database – and it sounds like he’d have to be involved with that. But do post back if you want help thinking about this some more.

@jwouma – please start your own thread – this one belongs to someone else and you don’t have the same issue. Please see this: http://codex.wordpress.org/Forum_Welcome#Where_To_Post and you can start a new thread here:
