Good day. I need help. My website has been up for a using Twenty-Fourteen. All was fine until 2 weeks ago or so. Now, my pages (i.e. legal, contact, portfolio, etc.) that were in the menu structure disappeared. When I add them back to the menu structure, they won’t stay in the structure. Any ideas? I switched themes to Storefront hoping that was the issue, and I have already deactivated all plugins without results. HueDew.com

  • Have you assigned your menus to a theme location? You can do this via the Customizer or Appearance > Menus in the dashboard.

I had the navigation menus working fine for a year, so I believe that must mean they were assigned in my original theme (TwentyFourteen) and now in Storefront. >Appearance>Menus>Pages> and then I dropoped them into Menu Structure. The menu structure will not save the changes of the added pages that had disappeared out of the blue. I switched to Storefront hoping the issue would be resolved, but it doesn’t appear to be a theme issue as my navigation menus still don’t have the pages I load into the menu structure.

    Hey,

You didn’t answer my question though :p Have you assigned your menus to a location?

I guess I don’t know what you are asking when you ask me if I have assigned menus to location? Could the navigation menu have worked for the past year without me doing that? I’m not being sarcastic, I’m asking. To what location should I be assigning the menus?

In the appearance > menu page, in the bottom part you will see the Menu settings section. In there you can see checkboxes for the theme location. You’ll just have to check the appropriate location for your menu.

You’ll also have to create a new menu for the secondary one. Hope this helps!

Hey, that’s ok. Please read the documentation on menus; http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Menu_User_Guide#Adding_Your_Menu_to_Your_Site

If you’ve switched to a theme with different locations then yes, this might have been reset. It’s a very easy fix though. Just assign your created menus to the primary and/or secondary menu locations in storefront.

Read more in the Storefront docs; http://docs.woothemes.com/document/installation-configuration/

My navigation menus show up. That is not the problem. The problem is that the pages (legal, blog, etc.) no longer show up in the menu as they once had. I still have “store, cart, checkout, contact and about,” but no longer have “legal, portfolio, etc). I can’t get those pages to stay in the menu structure after adding them into the structure and saving. I get only five pages to show up (any five) OR ALL of the pages show up in the navigation menu. This is true whether I am using the TwentyFourteen OR the Storefront themes.

Maybe you’re adding the pages to the wrong menu. Without having access to your dashboard I don’t think I can really help you any further on this.

Please thoroughly read http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Menu_User_Guide for more information.

Hard to understand how I could be adding pages to the wrong menu as they were showing up properly until about a month ago. I will make an entirely new menu and make that one active and see what it will do.

Because different themes have different menu locations. Perhaps you were adding items to a menu which hadn’t been assigned a location.

    Hope you figured it out.

Issue continues. If I add a product to my main menu (primary menu) inside the menu structure, then other main menu navigational categories disappear. I.E. if I add a photo cuff, then my “cart” disappears in the main menu (this after being there BEORE I added the cuff. The main menu now only holds my “shop” page and won’t let me add my “cart,” “checkout” etc. I’ve had to add all that to my secondary menu (submenu) instead. Not where these items need to be. Someone must be having the same issues. It has been months now that this is happening. HueDew.com
