Page visibility password protection not working

  • The visibility of one of the pages on my site is password protected using the feature on the right side of the WP page editor. I had the password set to expire after 60 seconds. After leaving the page a subsequent try to access the page required the password to be entered again. This function worked well until I upgraded to 3.7.1. Now when someone leaves the page after having accessed it once before the password is no longer required and therefore anybody could access the page from that computer. Were there any changes made in WP 3.7.1? Can anybody let me know how can I fix this?
    Thanks,
    Ben

I had the password set to expire after 60 seconds.

How exactly did you do that? This functionality is not available in WordPress by default.

I edited the wp-pass.php file residing on the site server.

Never, ever, edit WordPress core scripts. Editing core scripts can bring down your entire site and/or open security holes for hackers to use. Use something like http://wordpress.org/plugins/protected-posts-logout-button/ instead.
