• I have an old html site I am converting to WordPress. (new to WP).

The old site’s main page is “default” and to not lose web ranking I need to keep page names the same for now.

    Problem
If I create a WP default page it insists displaying that in big glaring letters. If I change the page title to something better, it changes the actual file name.

    Also:

At some point the default page’s title (viewed in code) becomes the Site Title! Ans all other pages title is the page name | site title.

How can I control the title and name of the pages under these circumstances?

I wish there was an edit function on these posts sorry.

At some point the default page’s title (viewed in code) becomes the Site Title, and all other pages title are the page name | site title.

One clue I found led me to install a new theme (Graphene). This allowed me to over ride the title problem.

Seems like there should be a more universal fix for this that works for most themes and does not involve coding.
