Page template not listed in dropdown

Hi, thanks for viewing. I have a template file with

/*
Template Name: info
*/
?>

at the very top before the html tag. when i go to the admin page it is not listed in template dropdown. how do i get wp to see this? I am using MAMP local server and its otherwise working fine.
