Page-specific sidebars for more flexible widget use

  • I want to create a page (or 2 or 3) that uses different side-bar widgets. Is there a best-practices way to do this? I can certainly create something ugly by building the page from scratch, but it would be unbearable to maintain. Conversely I make a lot of modifications to the core code, which is just as bad, and I’d probably break functionality of some plug-ins.

Has anybody got a page with a custom sidebar that doesn’t require a great deal of modification to functions.php, the templates directory and style.css?

All things considered, it would be great if you could add optional multisidebar flag, and a sidebar_number to the theme options and the Widgets screen, so you can use page-specific north/south/east/west sidebars.

But for now, I’d just like to get some help on creating a custom page with hardcoded widgets that I can manually edit that breaks as few php modules as possible.
