 * I hope I am not in an incorrect place for this question.
 * I need a member log in, where a customer signs in to view certain protected pages.
 * I have tried several plug ins, but can not get it to work.
 * can somebody please help this idiot.

 * Try [these videos](http://www.s2member.com/videos/) (though I’m not a fan of 
   the country music that you sometimes get!)
 * You don’t need PayPal (or any other payment processor) if you don’t want to sell
   memberships.
 * The other thing I’d recommend is that you don’t rush. This is a very powerful
   plugin (by far the most powerful membership plugin on wordpress.org) and it takes
   some time to set up.

 * No I do not want to sell any memberships. I just need people to sign in to protected
   pages to view it.
