Interested in finding out a little bit more (if possible) about optimal useage of this plugin for someone who has not used similar plugins before.

For instance, I am not sure which files to try to combine? Which to try to exclude, etc. Will do some googling, but would love to read any documentation that exists (just can't find it maybe?).

Also, when attempting to select some of the many js files on my site and combine/compress them, I get am redirected to a 'page not found' page.

Have you read this thread? http://wordpress.org/support/topic/do-i-select-all-javascript-css-to-combine

I would suggest first trying to combine and compress them all! In most cases that will work and it is the best way to handle your assets. The idea is that you're reducing the number of requests to the server, and you're reducing the request the size. The more you combine/compress the better you do at achieving that goal.

Please explain the steps in further detail on the "page not found" error. I've never had that come up and I'm not quite sure what you're referring to? When you check the boxes to include the javascript? Are you checking the label or the box or both? Are you using the "check all" box?

    Thanks!

Please respond if you still need help. Otherwise, I'm marking this post as resolved since it's over a month old now.
