Page Not Found?

  • When i posted a new blog post, it shows on the main page but when you click the link or the comments it gives me a 404 error.

i haven’t changed anything although my host just upped my bandwidth yesterday. none of my posts will show individually.

can anyone tell me what’s wrong?

  • Try logging into WordPress and going to Settings -> Permalinks. Then save the settings. Also pay attention to the bottom. If WordPress is unable to create your .htaccess file itself, it will tell you what needs to be placed in it.

I believe this will fix your problem, but feel free to post back if it does not.

It’s saying I need to update htaccess now. It’s suppose to be writable. Why isn’t it updating itself? And how do I update?

Okay i updated my version and changed the htaccess to 777 (the only one that would allow it to update automatically). It seems to have worked.

Can anyone tell me why it need this though? Is there something i can do to prevent it in the future?

You can ask your webhost if there is a better set of permissions that will still allow WordPress to write to the .htaccess file but not let other users on the server write to it.
