    Hi all,

    First post.

I'm real new to PHP and wordpress and I just did a bad thing.

    I changed my index.php <?php the_content('Find out more about this---> »'); ?>

To 'Read More' and after I uploaded the page my entire blog went blank. Like I said I am extremely new (1.5 days) so any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't know if if I broke the wordpress index.php or the kubrick theme index.php...I just know I broke something.

    Here's the page:

Let me know if I need to post more.

    Thanks,

    Lemorris

So, which index did you edit? The one in the WP root or the one in the theme file?

And as a rule of thumb for the future: NEVER touch a template files before making a backup copy. If you missed this, just download WP again and upload the un-altered theme index file to its location.

Upload an unchanged, unedited by you, index.php from within the zip?

thats a rhetorical question, not a question to you moshu (you just beat me to the answer) :)

    Thank you.

I uploaded the unaltered theme index file but the blog remains blank.

Is there a way to reload an unaltered WP index file?

If you edited the WP root index, too (which you shouldn't!) - in the same way as you did with the index of the theme... upload that file, too. How did you upload the themeindex?

moshu: I used Dreamweaver to edit my theme index.php file and uploaded it with Smart FTP.

I currently have the wp-root index file from the download uploaded and the theme/default/index.php file loaded in that directory.

I'm not getting an error (well outside of the whole blank page thing I mean).

    Thanks guys.

I hope you used your DW in "code" mode - otherwise it always screws up any WP file!

Check if your theme is actiavted.
Also, try to delete the /cache/ folder under /wp-content.

Yeah I was in code mode Moshu (whew).

I don't have a cache folder and when I go to my admin

    http://www.dhpvw.com/wordpress/wp-admin/admin.php

    it's blank too.

    ????

    I think I killed it.

I think I'll have the guy who installed it re-install for me tomorrow.

    I appreciate your time.

    Next time I'll back up....twice.

I'll let you know when it's back.

    Thanks.

I don't think that the only thing you did was editing the theme file. Obviously something else happended, too - it's just difficult the figure out what exactly happened.

However, if this is a brand new blog, I'd just delete all the files and upload a new set of WP files or, if there were no posts - just do a fresh install.

Yeah Moshu I agree. I have no idea what I did still. It was bad though and I'm terrified of doing it again. My friend reloaded WP for me and I rebuilt most of what I had yesterday.

I appreciate all the help. It's great when a board lets a noob be a noob.

    I'll be around.

    Thanks
