  • i’m getting errors in validating my site, most of them coming from this part of the code:

    <LINK REL="SHORTCUT ICON" href="./aboutpics/icon.gif" type="image/x-icon" />

    The Errors:
    1. Line 10, column 11: there is no attribute “REL”
    2. Line 10, column 32: there is no attribute “href”
    3. Line 10, column 60: there is no attribute “type”
    4. Line 10, column 76: element “LINK” undefined
    5. Line 188, column 5: end tag for element “div” which is not open

    I can’t find where error 5 is coming from either …

  • try using lowercase instead of upper.

    nope, that wasn’t it …

    <link rel=”shortcut icon” href=”favicon.ico” />

    that’s what my favorites line says. do you still get errors when yout ake that lin eout?

    well, if i take that line out, there wouldn’t be the errors 1-4, but 5 is still there …

    you didn’t change your LINK REL to lowercase as it has to be in lowercase for it to work.

    and that last div error is just that you added an extra closing div. take it out and it should be fixed.

    thanks lawtai for that, i didn’t realize that case mattered 😛 heh oops … and also about that last <div> tag, if i delete that then my footer doesn’t show up (and/or is unstable) … seemingly meaning that there is another area in which the problem is going on …

    post what you have in your index.php file, as i’m pretty sure your divs must be messed up. if you’re using anything like dreamweaver to edit your files, then you can use that to check the opening/closing divs and see if you’ve screwed up anywhere.

    i think i’ve seen those last two divs before, but i tried deleting one, only to find something else was wrong …

    from glancing at that, your divs look alright, but according to the wc3 check, your extra div is coming after your footer, so the error’s probably in the footer. check your footer file and remove any extra divs in there.

    another program i woudl suggest is notepad++ which is a free editor. it’ll let you collapse corresponding areas to help you check your code better.

    man … dunno how that worked out … but it did, i’ve been looking over the code for too long perhaps … anyway thanks 🙂

    i’ll take a look at notepad ++ thanks again 🙂
