• Has anyone created galleries in the Snapshot theme (or really any theme) with pages instead of posts? I am having some major trouble getting this to look right and could really use some help!
    Please and thank you!

  • Gallery is WP feature, it works on post or page regardless of theme and I don’t think that any theme will modify it to the point that it won’t work normally.

Review the usage of gallery shortcode here

Basically, you just upload images thru that post or page, and then put this [gallery] in the content.

I don’t have the gallery option when I am editing my page template though :/

I will take a look at that link, thank you!

I looked in content and mine already says [gallery] with some specifications in it and when I view it it appears to look like a gallery anyway, I just couldn’t specify in the template. But I guess that isn’t a huge deal. However, do you know how to separate some gallery pages from others? My menu bar shows every page, but I want my text dominant ones (contact, bio, etc.) to be displayed there only and the image ones below. Right now all of them are in the menu bar and all of them are in the clickable image columns underneath. But I don’t want that since the bio as an image looks silly of course…. Hopefully this makes sense?

Are you saying that you are editing the theme’s template file ?

Not the theme- the page. When I go into any of my pages to edit them on the template scroll down menu “Gallery” is not an option. I don’t know if that matters? My images seem to be displayed like a gallery anyway since I uploaded a gallery into each page.

Actually the gallery is WP core feature but it doesn’t have the UI in the dashboard like that, you use gallery in WP by uploading images and then put in gallery shortcode along with arguments in it into the content and it will appear as gallrey in front. ( review the usage of gallery shortcode in the link above )

If you upload images into the post or page and you see gallery without you doing anything, then the theme is doing that for you, for this you have no control over the look ( not without child theme and such. )

Regarding the menu bar, you can set up the menu, and it will display menu that you set, instead of default.

I think the problem with mine is that a) I am horrible with code and new to this and b) my theme autogenerated the image menu below from my main menu up top. So if I edit that menu it is linked to the other. But I want to separate it. I tried to do “bio” “references” “contact” “portfolio” and put subpages into portfolio so that that is all that shows up top but I want those subpages to each be displayed as clickable images below. Right now it’s showing bio and references too and I can’t figure out how to hardcode it to the way I am envisioning, or if I even can.

If this makes sense and you want to take a look I can include the link to my website if that helps?

my theme autogenerated the image menu below from my main menu up top. So if I edit that menu it is linked to the other. But I want to separate it.

I don’t think the theme would do that. By looking at the theme demo, I could see the menu doesn’t have anything to do with either the big front slider images or post images down below.

The menu is the menu, you can put any links in it anyway you want.

but I want those subpages to each be displayed as clickable images below.

Since the menu is just a collection of links, you can just use posts normally and link to the post in the menu, this way you don’t have to edit the theme to show pages instead of post in that section.

In short, keep whatever functionality as is, make links in the menu anyway you want.

Okay great, thank you again! It’s starting to come together finally 🙂
